Organisations which take a strategic approach to Diversity and Inclusion gain more than just reputational advantage or the fuzzy warm feeling that comes from doing the right thing. There are measurable benefits to be gained from broadening the talent pool, being an employer of choice and having a better understanding of all customers. However, negotiating this sensitive area requires a deep level of understanding and experience if it is to have the desired impact.
Robert Isaac, our Director of People Development, has in-depth experience of designing organisation-wide programmes to improve awareness and performance on diversity from an employer’s perspective but also in terms of delivering better customer service through effective engagement. Robert has been at the cutting edge of organisational diversity and inclusion programmes since being asked to develop Family Housing Group’s response to the McPherson report in the late 1990’s.
Our approach is a collaborative one. We’ve learnt that one size does not fit all and that the design of a programme depends on your organisational values and culture and the specific challenges your business faces. It also depends on how far along the journey you’ve come so far and where you’d like to be.
So before we make any recommendations about developing training we will undertake an initial fact-finding process. We’ll hold an initial meeting with those commissioning the work, review policies and procedures and carry out telephone or VC meetings with people from all levels your organisation.
Most organisations we work with have areas where they already excel and we will make this the jumping off point to develop understanding and capacity across the business.
Our training and workshops are practical and engaging and will cover the legal aspects of protected characteristics as well as providing tools to help boost your organisation’s approach.
